9/7/2023 0 Comments Reaper vst![]() ![]() I hit record and play in real time and hear back heavy crackles, but when I play back the audio file that I recorded in real time there are no crackles at all. Now, I create a new audio track and route the instrument into it to record the audio. This alone is concerning, but it gets stranger: It doesn't really matter which synth or Kontakt instrument I load, they all crackle except for when the CPU stays around 5% or so with very simple waveforms. Same with playing back a MIDI recording with the instrument. The Reaper performance meter shows about 15% CPU usage (see screenshots below and in the attached zip), but when I play, the audio has heavy crackles as if the CPU overloaded. I'm opening a new project without any effects and insert a virtual instrument. The problem persists with WASAPI and other audio drivers. I'm using the latest version of ASIO4ALL with the system audio and 512 latency, and it just slightly changes when I increase latency all the way to 2048. I'm using version 5.90 but it appears in other installations back to 5.0. ![]() In contrast, some saturation plugins allow you to control the audio signal in additional ways.I'm starting with virtual instruments in Reaper and have a strange problem on my Lenovo W520 with an i7, 32GB RAM and Win 7. It also lacks settings and controls, making it only sound one way. Some drawbacks of JS: Saturation is its design, which is boring and not very fun to look at compared to other saturation plugins. JS: Saturation is a free plugin for REAPER. Still, if you are a REAPER user looking to save some money, I recommend giving JS: Saturation a try. There are loads of different third-party saturation plugins out there that you can buy. Using saturation is a great way to add warmth and presence to an instrument within your mix. Not quite as quality as some other third-party graphic EQ plugins.Does not have options for mid/side or right/left processing. Some of the only pitfuls I see for ReaEQ are its dull and unattractive design and the fact that it does not allow for mid/side or right/left processing like other graphic equalizers. In ReaEQ, you can also add as many different frequency bands as you need. It features various presets that you can use as a starting point and a very simple layout. ReaEQ is REAPER’s built-in graphic EQ, and other than a few drawbacks, it is an excellent option if you are looking to save money on fancy third-party plugins.
